RCMP and Peace Officers remove impaired drivers from roads in joint holiday initiative

Dec 28, 2022 | 12:16 PM

A partnership between two law enforcement bodies worked together before Christmas to keep the roads safe during the busy holiday season.

The Grande Prairie RCMP rural officers and County of Grande Prairie Enforcement Services conducted vehicle compliance checks on December 22 and 23.

The joint initiative found a number of impaired drivers that were immediately taken off the road, as well as several Provincial Offences with the Liquor, Gaming and Cannabis Act among others.

Officers also found a high amount of drivers unable to produce vehicle documents, which is a reminder to ensure you have a valid certificate of vehicle registration and insurance available for inspection.

On a good note, RCMP and Peace Officers also found an abundance of designated drivers keeping the roads safe in the county during the holiday season.

The Grande Prairie detachment says they are committed to community safety and will continue to conduct similar initiatives throughout the rest of the year to keep everybody on the roads safe.
