Curling Round-Up: Sexsmith skip leads team to provincial title, Master provincials wrap up at GPCC

A curler from Sexsmith has led his team to a provincial title.

Team Hiebert, skipped by Jaxon Hiebert, beat Team Perozak 5-4 in the final of the U18 Men’s Provincial Championship played in Cochrane.

Team Hiebert clinched the win by counting three in the last end. They had won all their other games before the final.

Team Hiebert plays out of Sherwood Park.Team Perozak includes curlers from Sherwood Park, Okotoks and Lethbridge.

Team Nelson/Doepker from Sexsmith wound up 2-5 while Team Young, also from Sexsmith, finished 2-5 on the girl’s side.

Team Plett from Airdrie and Sherwood Park defeated Team Yarmuch from Edmonton 4-3 in the girl’s final.

Both winners advance to nationals February 5 to 11 in Timmins, Ontario.

Provincial Masters wraps up at GPCC

Wade White from Edmonton beat Scott Egger’s rink from Coaldale, Canmore, and Nanton 5-4 in the final of the Master Men’s provincials played at the Grande Prairie Curling Centre Sunday.
White’s team went undefeated throughout the event.

None of the four men’s teams from the Peace made the playoffs. Colin Griffith’s team came closest, losing in a C Event qualifier.

A team from Sherwood Park and Calgary skipped by Debbie Santos won the women’s title in a three team playdown that included Marg Redlick of Grande Prairie. Santos beat Nannette Dupont from Lethbridge 6-5 Saturday afternoon to clinch the title.

Nationals will be held April 2 to 9 in Saint John, New Brunswick.
