Fraud report from local hotel leads to charges against two local men

RCMP arrested a pair of Grande Prairie men after they received a report from a local hotel of identity theft.

On December 1, the hotel sent a report to the police after they believed a client had used fraudulent credit cards to get a room.

An investigation followed and led Mounties to obtain a search warrant for a residential apartment in Grande Prairie.

RCMP recovered stolen property, stolen identification, fraudulent documents, forged documents, and the equipment used to create them, including a computer, printers, and ID templates.

A 37-year-old Grande Prairie resident, Trent Thompson has been charged with:

  • Possession of a forged document X 10
  • Theft, forgery, misuse of credit card X 8
  • Illegal possession or trafficking in government documents X 7
  • Identity theft X 2
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 X 2
  • Identity fraud
  • Make, deal or possess instruments for forging credit card
  • Make/sell/possess instruments for making a forged document
  • Possession of methamphetamine

A 27-year-old resident of Grande Prairie, Kevin Stewart has been charged with:

  • Obtain food/lodging by fraud
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 X 2
  • Theft, forgery, misuse of credit card
  • Identity theft
  • Identity fraud
  • Possession of a forged document

After a judicial hearing, Thompson was remanded into custody and is expected in Grande Prairie Provincial Court on Monday, January 16 Stewart was released and is scheduled to appear in court on January 25.
