Alberta NDP: ‘A lot of lying going on’ about premier’s role in COVID-19 prosecutions
EDMONTON – Alberta’s Opposition N-D-P leader says Premier Danielle Smith is rolling back on comments made a day earlier that she was contacting prosecutors handling cases involving COVID-19 violations.
Smith now says she has never contacted prosecutors directly and says her language was imprecise.
The premier says she met with Justice Minister Tyler Shandro and the deputy attorney general and accepted their view that the cases will be handled independently according to due process.
Smith has spoken out against what she terms the unjust prosecution of those charged for COVID-19 health violations, such as mask rules and vaccine mandates.
