HAMILTON — Attacking midfielder David Choiniere has signed a new multi-year contract with Forge FC.

The 25-year-old from Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Que., scored in Forge’s 2-0 championship win over Atletico Ottawa in October. The goal marked his ninth in knockout matches for the Hamilton-based team.

“We are extremely happy to have David continue with us in Hamilton,” Costa Smyrniotis, Forge’s director of football and business, said in a statement. “David has played such an important role in the early success of our club, and we look forward to continued success together in the coming years.”

Choiniere was the first CPL player to score in the CONCACAF Champions League with a goal against Mexico’s Cruz Azul at Azteca Stadium.

Choiniere has made 105 appearances in all competitions for Forge over the last four seasons. He started with the Montreal’s academy in 2011, working his way up the ranks to make his MLS debut in October 2016.

He played in five regular-season games for Montreal before his contract option was declined following the 2108 season.

His younger brother Mathieu is a midfielder with CF Montreal.
