Sexsmith producer becomes head of Alberta Wheat Commission

The Alberta Wheat Commission has wrapped up its final Annual General Meeting by returning a Sexsmith area farmer as Board Chair.

Greg Sears will head up the organizations as it works towards an amalgamation with Alberta Barley, which is expected to take effect later this year, pending minister approval of new regulations.

The announcement came Thursday at the conclusion of the AGM in Edmonton during the CrossRoads crop conference.

Producer members of the two commissions voted last November through a pair of plebiscites to merge.

Sears says over the next few months they look forward to building a well thought out platform for the launch of a new commission.
