Local hockey weekend recap

AJHL

Grande Prairie Storm played just once on the weekend, falling 5-3 to Lloydminster on Friday night.

The Storm are now three points back of the Bobcats for sixth in the AJHL’s North division.

Their next game is Tuesday at Bonnett’s Energy Centre hosting the Whitecourt Wolverines, puck drop is 7:00 p.m.

NWJHL

Northwest Junior Hockey League from yesterday saw La Crete blank Dawson Creek 5-0.

On Saturday, it was Dawson Creek beating the County Wheat Kings 5-3, Fort St John doubled up La Crete 4-2 and North Peace edged Fairview 5-4.

Friday night saw Fort St John blank Sexsmith 5-0, La Crete got by Fairview 5-2, and Dawson Creek beat North Peace 5-2.

The next game is the league is on Wednesday, with Beaverlodge heading to Fort St John, puck drop is 8:00 p.m. local time.

NPHL

Grande Prairie Athletics picked up a pair of wins over the weekend in the North Peace Hockey League.

On Friday, the A’s went in to Manning and knocked off the Comets 8-5.

On Saturday, they returned home to defeat Fort St John 8-5.

The A’s will wrap up the regular season this Saturday night at home against Spirit River.

The two teams will open up the playoffs against each other on February 7.
