Tender awarded for FireSmart Fuel Reduction work in County of Grande Prairie

More FireSmart Fuel reduction work is set to begin in the County of Grande Prairie in the coming weeks.

The work, which will be done on approximately 23 hectares of land in the Highway 40 west project area, will be done in two phases.

Phase one includes firewood salvage, which will be delivered to County campgrounds for the 2024 camping season.

Phase two is debris removal, which includes brush pile burning, which will take place after snowfall. .

The Forest Resources Improvement Association of Alberta is providing 200-thousand of the projected 330-thousand dollar cost of the work, through its FireSmart Vegetation Management Grant.

The County will cover the remaining costs.

Wildfire Property Protection Ltd has been awarded the tender to complete the work.

The goal is to have most of the work done before spring.
