Local sports this weekend

The local sports schedule for this weekend includes hockey, skiing, and Wolves basketball and volleyball.

Hockey

The Storm host Fort McMurray Friday night. Game time is 7 pm at the Bonnetts Energy Centre. The Storm are seventh in the North Division, two points back of Lloydminster. The Storm have not recorded a win in eight games, with two of those losses in a shootout.

Northwest Junior Hockey League Friday night, Fort St. John at the Wheat Kings and Fairview in Dawson Creek. Wheat Kings beat the Kodiaks 6-2 last night to move into second place. Fort St John is in first place.

Saturday, Peace River in Sexsmith, Fort St. John in Dawson Creek, and Beaverlodge in La Crete. All those games start at 8 pm. Sunday, Sexsmith at the Wheat Kings and Beaverlodge in La Crete. Both start at 2 pm.

The North Peace Hockey League schedule from www.discoverthepeacecountry.com Friday, Grimshaw in Manning. Saturday, Spirit River in Grande Prairie, Valleyview at Falher, Manning at Grimshaw and Dawson creek at Fort St. John.

Ski Hills

Nitehawk is open Fridays from 5:30 to 9:30, and from 11-5 Saturdays and Sundays. The Tube Zone is open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Tube Zone passes must be pre-booked online.

Whispering Pines Ski Hill is open Friday through Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm daily.

Fairview Ski Hill is open from 6 to 9 pm Wednesdays, 11-5 Saturdays, Sundays, holidays and no school days.

Wolves

Wolves basketball will host Augustana Friday at 6 and 8 pm and Saturday at 1 and 3 pm. There are two weekends left in the basketball season after this one.

Volleyball visits Augustana Friday at 6 and 8 pm and Saturday at 1 and 3 pm. Volleyball will visit Red Deer next Saturday to wrap up the regular season.
