Shandro worried federal government still wants to ban some widely-owned guns

Alberta Justice Minister Tyler Shandro says he believes the federal government still intends to pursue a ban on widely-owned shotguns and rifles despite withdrawing controversial amendments to gun legislation.

Rural Canadians and hunters were in an uproar over the amendments because they would have added dozens of new semi-automatic rifles and shotguns to the list of banned firearms.

Shandro says firearms owners breathed a sigh of relief about the withdrawal of the amendments to Bill C-21 — but he says those hopes were dashed by a later statement from the public safety minister.
