Grande Prairie Live Theatre’s rendition of “Shrek The Musical” starts today

Grande Prairie Live Theatre opens its own interpretation of “Shrek the Musical” tonight at the KMSC Law Performing Arts Theatre.

Director of the musical, Jen Robertson said after covid they saw how important entertainment was to people and wanted to put on a production that everyone of all ages can enjoy.

It wasn’t until a colleague took his elderly mother to a play in Vancouver that the idea of “Shrek The Musical” was born.

” It all kinda started when a colleague of mine was talking to me about him bringing his elderly mother to see Shrek in Vancouver, and he saw so much joy, happiness, and laughter on her face during that show, that it really stuck with him as a really strong, positive, wonderful memory that he has of her.”

Robertson said after being on hold throughout covid, to come back and have 85 plus volunteers and high ticket sales, it showed how well-received and important theatre is to people in the Peace, and it really made an impression on the cast, especially after all their hard work.

” Thank you so much for all your support and love for this show, we’ve worked very hard to bring this all together, we hope you enjoy it and I want to say thank you to the cast and crew, it takes a village to put this kind of show together, cause it’s a beast.”

She adds, it’s been a labor of love since January 2022, and it’s nice to see it all come to fruition.

“So there are ten shows in total, and I’ve been working on this show for a year, we did auditions in June and then the cast has been in rehearsals since October.”

For tonight’s opening rendition of “Shrek The Musical”, theatre lobby doors are expected to open at 6:30 p.m. theatre doors open at 7:15, then show time at 7:30.
