County to undertake municipal census and boundary review

County of Grande Prairie is moving ahead with plans to conduct a Municipal Census and Electoral Boundary review.

The idea was presented by County administration during 2023 Interim Budget deliberations, and council has now directed them to proceed with issuing a Request for Proposal for the project.

The last municipal census in the County was done in 2012, and the goal for this one is to have current and accurate data for the review and development of the divisional boundary bylaw.

After the Village of Hythe was dissolved into the County of Grande Prairie in June of 2021, a review f the number of councillors and wards and ward boundaries was mandated.

That review, which must be completed prior to the next municipal election in 2025, will determine if any changes are needed to balance population among the wards and ensure that council has appropriate representation.
