Feb 16, 2023 | 3:42 PM

The Yukon Quest 2023 Dog Sled race 450-mile division has come to an end with the dog sled team’s arrival in Dawson City.

After five days of racing, three women sat on top of the podium.

Michelle Philips took home first place with a commanding lead, arriving in Dawson City twelve hours before the second-place finisher.

Mille Porsild came second crossing the finish line at 1:10 p.m. on Wednesday, February 15.

A team belonging to Aaron Peck placed third but was not driven by him. Mayla Hill finished third, arriving at the finish line at 8:22 p.m. Wednesday. This was Hill’s longest race to date and Hill was quoted at the finish line saying ” Were ready to do another 500 more miles”

Peck did follow Hill by only an hour placing fourth. After finishing he greeted the Yukon Quest media team with stories about mistaking an ‘Artic Ultra’ athlete as a moose and the wonderful Yukon hospitality at the race checkpoints.

Two more mushers followed up Hill, arriving early this morning while the northern lights were still out over Dawson City. Patrons saw Connor McMahon receive the Red Lantern at 7:42 a.m. from Race Marshall Jerry Joinson, a token that is given to the last place musher, which represents mental fortitude and perseverance.
