Drugs and firearms seized during arrest on man wanted on several previous warrants

A 36 year old High Prairie man is in custody following an investigation by the Grande Prairie RCMP Crime Reduction Unit of a suspect that they believed was breaching multiple release conditions.

On February 2nd, Mounties conducted a traffic stop on a taxi carrying a man as a passenger.

After makng an arrest, police conducted a search of the suspect, where they seized 57 grams of suspected cocaine, and an imitation firearm.

RCMP then obtained a search arrant to a Grande Prairie residence that was associated to the suspect.

The search turned up what is believed to be 50 grams of methamphetamine, 100 millilitres of GHB and two firearms.

Derek Charles Shaw faces a number of charges, including:

· Possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled substance (x2)

· Fail to comply with release conditions (x7)

· Unauthorized possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized (x2)

· Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose

· Unauthorized possession of a firearm (x2)

· Unsafe storage of a firearm (x3)

Police say Shaw was wanted on several warrants for similar offences at the time of his arrest.

He is scheduled to appear in Grande Prairie Provincial Court on February 27th.
