Ken and Sherry Drysdale and family are the 2023 County of Grande Prairie Farm Family of the Year.

They farm 4,500 acres of grains and oilseed along with grass seed near Highway 43X, northwest of Grande Prairie.

The county says in a news release that the family’s community involvement includes supporting 4-H clubs, the Evergreen Park Agricultural Society, curling rinks, Rotary clubs, and the Sexsmith Heritage Society.

They also grew 80 acres of sunflowers last summer with the money raised from selling the crop as birdseed going to help families fleeing the war in Ukraine to settle in the Peace Country.

“I am very humbled that our family has received this honour. Knowing the caliber of past Farm Families, it is incredible to me that we are included in the same category,” says Ken Drysdale in a release from the county.

The Drysdales are the 55th family to receive the award since it started in 1969.

They will be saluted at the Peace Country Classic Agri-Show next Friday, March 10 at a banquet. Tickets are available through the county’s ag department. It can be reached at 780-532-9727.

The show will start next Thursday, March 9, and run through March 11.
