PWPSD new high school planning in Budget 2023

Mar 1, 2023 | 1:17 PM

Three school projects in the Peace region are being supported in the new provincial budget.

Over $2.3 billion dollars over the next three years is being spent on new and modernized classrooms around Alberta.

Education Minister Adriana La Grange says Budget 2023 supports 58 projects – 47 for planning, design, and construction.

“In total, there will be nearly 25,000 new and additional school spaces for students across Alberta, which includes the creation of more than 9,400 new spaces and upgrades of more 15,500 student spaces.”

La Grange says ten new schools, 16 replacement schools, and seven modernizations are addressed in this budget with $372 million.

The three regional school projects in Budget 2023 are:

  • Peace Wapiti Public School Division has been funded to plan a new high school north of Grande Prairie,
  • Valleyview’s Northern Gateway School Division is getting full construction funding for a solution for the town,
  • Peace River School Division’s Red Earth Creek School will be replaced with design funding this year.

The Minister adds the province is not just funding new schools for full construction, but also providing school authorities with more support earlier in the planning process so they can progress with fewer roadblocks.
