Alberta RCMP to focus on seat belt usage in March

Mar 3, 2023 | 6:00 AM

RCMP across Alberta will be focusing on seat belt usage during the month of March.

Alberta RCMP Traffic Inspector Chris Romanchych says you should always make a habit of fastening your seat belt as soon as you enter a vehicle.

They add using safety restraints while driving can be the difference between life and death if you are involved in a motor vehicle collision.

Motorists are responsible for making sure themselves and any passenger under the age of 16 are wearing proper seat belts or occupant restraints.

Failing to do so could result in a $162 fine if they or any passengers under the age of 16 are not seat belted.

Passengers 16 or older can also be fined if they’re not wearing a seat belt.

Last year, RCMP across the province handed out 3,993 seat belt infraction tickets.
