What was supposed to be a dream vacation for a Dawson Creek couple has turned into a nightmare for family following the death of a 23-year-old woman at a beach resort in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.

Twenty-six-year-old Ryan Friesen of Dawson Creek, B.C. is in Mexican custody following the death of his girlfriend Kiara Agnew on March 3.

According to multiple news sources, Agnew’s body was found in a resort’s laundry room alongside Friesen, who was sleeping. Agnew was a few days shy of her 24th birthday on March 11.

Friesen was detained by the SSP Solidaridad for what they call a; ‘possible crime of femicide, after a lifeless woman was found with possible marks of violence in a hotel located in the Xcalacoco neighborhood.’ (Translated from Spanish).

A GoFundMe page has been set up: Help bring Kiara Agnew Home, for costs associated with bringing Agnew home to be laid to rest.

The $20,000 goal has been reached, but donations continue to come in (at the time this article was published).

Agnew’s mother, Michele Levesque said in a comment on Facebook that her daughter’s body will be returned to Dawson Creek and the investigation into her death is ongoing.
