As of 10:30 a.m., March 16, 2023, five reports of seismic activity have been reported by Earthquakes Canada.

The first detection was at 8:46 a.m., of a “seismic event” with a magnitude of 4.2 in the Peace River region.

The second detection was at the same time, recorded as an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.0. It was 30 km NE of Reno, AB, and 176 km NE of Grande Prairie, AB.

A third “seismic event” was recorded in the Dawson Creek, B.C. region at 8:59 a.m. (Alberta time) at a magnitude of 4.2. Earthquakes Canada has since stated this detection was a “preliminary, mislocated event related to the sequence near Reno, Alberta.”

The Peace River region recorded a second earthquake at the magnitude of 4.6 at 8:59 a.m., and was followed by a third earthquake in the same area eight minutes later of the same magnitude.

All three recorded earthquakes came from the Reno area, within a 9 km radius of each other.

Reports of the aftershocks were felt as far; south as Calgary, east as Fort McMurray, north as La Crete, and west as Dawson Creek.
