Premier reacts to Toews decision not to seek re-election

Danielle Smith says Travis Toews has been one of the strongest Finance Ministers in Alberta’s history.

The premier made those comments as part of a statement she released shortly after the Grande Prairie-Wapiti MLA announced via Twitter that he would not seek re-election when Albertans go to the polls on May 29.

Smith also said that Toews leaves a legacy of strong fiscal management that she will continue to uphold as premier.

She added that she wishes Travis, his wife Kim, and their family nothing but the very best, saying that she greatly respects his decision to want to spend more time on his ranch and with his family.

She concluded that she would work with the party and the local constituency association to locate and appoint a new candidate for the UCP In Grande Prairie-Wapiti.
