Second accused in murder case given jail time

Alberta Justice says one of the people charged after the 2020 murder of a Clairmont man has been given jail time.

Melissa Aletha Healey was handed a two-year jail sentence Thursday in Grande Prairie court after earlier pleading guilty to a charge of unlawful confinement.

She was charged after Kyler Commandeur was shot to death in June of 2020. His body was found along Highway 677 west of Highway 2 near the Woking turnoff.

In July, Justin John Bishop was given a 66-month sentence after pleading guilty to a manslaughter charge.

Another man, Simon De Lima, has pleaded guilty to a murder charge and is due back in court May 25 while the trial for another man charged with murder, Cody Letourneau, resumes April 11.

An agreed statement of facts filed in court at the time of Bishop’s sentencing said that at one point, Healey and one of the other accused were in a bathroom at a home with Commandeur, who was tied up and had tape covering his nose, mouth, and face.

De Lima was named in that same agreed statement of facts as the one that shot Commandeur.

Trial date set for former school employee facing sexual assault, other charges

Alberta Justice says a trial date has been set for a former educational assistant facing charges that include sexual assault, sexual interference, and luring a child.

The accused, who we are not naming because of a court-ordered publication ban that prohibits the release of information that can identify the victims, will stand trial on December 19.

Beaverlodge RCMP said at the time that on October 12 last year, they had a report of the distribution of sexually explicit photos.

Police said there was more than one victim. The publication ban says there were seven.

An arrest was made on January 14 this year.

Guilty plea in drug, weapons seizure near Falher

Alberta Justice says the person charged after drugs and weapons were seized after a traffic stop has pleaded guilty.

Carmen Lamouche admitted to possession for the purpose of trafficking and flight from a peace officer charges March 16 in Falher court. A trial had been scheduled for March 16 and 17.

Lamouche was charged after a traffic stop on April 10, 2022, in the MD of Smoky River near Falher.

McLennan RCMP said at the time that what police believed to be cocaine and methamphetamine were seized, along with several weapons, including a shotgun and a .22, both of which had been altered to make them prohibited weapons.

Lamouche will be sentenced June 13.
