Mar 28, 2023 | 1:48 PM

County of Grande Prairie council met on Monday.

Council officially gave the green light to renovations at Bear Lake Campground that will take place this year. Eleven campsites will be powered, and a floating dock for personal watercraft will be constructed, with a total cost of the work coming in at just under $170 thousand.

Council also approved a few funding requests that came forward during their meeting, including $5,000 for the County of Grande Prairie Wheat Kings to help cover ice rental costs, and $20,000 in operating funding for the Hythe and District Agricultural Society.

Council decided though that they wanted more information regarding an additional funding request from the Hythe and District Agricultural Society. The group was also looking for another $100,000 in capital grant funding to use towards upgrades to the Hythe Community Center. Council will revisit the request during final budget deliberations.

County council gave conditional approval to a development permit for NuVista Energy to build three power generation accessory buildings. They will be built at their site east of Anderso Lake, about 2 km north of Secondary Highway 672.

Also during their meeting on Monday, Council asked administration to prepare a report outlining optins for a pilot project to support internet connectivity at community halls across the County.

And they also agreed to provide a letter of support to Connecting the Dots Foundation for their application to the provincial Child Care Space Creation grant program. Operators of the Alphabet Daycare in the Wellington Resource Centre in Clairmont, Connecting the Dots wants to develop a new daycare in the Crossroads Industrial park, in order to provide additional childcare spaces in Clairmont.
