County of Grande Prairie council meeting highlights

County of Grande Prairie council met on Monday.

Council approved a by-law that will see the formation of a Regional Branding Project Committee, which will also include representatives from the City and the MD of Greenview.

The goal is to develop a regional brand that can be used for future joint events and initiatives.

The three local municipalities will join forces to host an event during an upcoming Federation of Canadian Municipalities conference that will promote our region.

During their meeting on Monday, County council also accepted for information a report regarding the Plan Your County planning engagement project that will take place over the next few years.

It is part of the County’s plan to review and update documents that shape development across their municipality and is being done to ensure that strategies and plans continue to align with the needs of their communities.

The Plan Your County project will involve a comprehensive public engagement process, including various opportunities for residents, businesses, community groups, and other audiences to learn more and provide input.

Council approved the awarding of grants to two new doctors opening practices in the County.

Each grant is worth $10,000 and is through the South Peace Professional Attraction Committee.

Dr. Saurabh Parmar is opening a medical clinic in Hythe, while Dr. Thomas Haupt will open one in Beaverlodge.

Council approved a quote from Brandt Equipment in the amount of $359,831 for a John Deere wheel loader that will replace existing equipment in the Hamlet of Hythe.

Funding for the loader was approved during 2023 interim budget discussion.

Council also awarded a tender to Green Acre Ventures in the amount of $1,049,162 towards upgrades to Township Road 720 west.
