Budget 2023 Grant Funding for Peace Region infrastructure announcement

Some provincial grants included in Budget 2023 to support road, bridge, community airports, and water projects across Alberta will be finding their way to the Peace Region.

The province budgeted $179.5 million in grants for road, bridge, airport, and water projects, with a $120 million increase in funding for Alberta Municipal Water/Waterwaste projects, (AMWWP) for a total of $211 million over the next three years. Also, $169.3 million has been allocated over the next three years to allowi the government to maintain support funds for Water For Life projects.

Fifty-three Alberta Municipal Water/Waterwaste projects are taking place across Alberta, creating 672 jobs.

Eight of the Alberta Municipal Water/Waterwaste Projects are taking place in the Peace:

In total, the Peace region is receiving $38,296,587.28 in provincial grants to improve rural water and wastewater infrastructure.

In Budget 2023 as well, the provincial government included funding for Strategic Transportation Infrastructure Program (STIP) projects, with $93.2 million allocated over the next three years, with the province funding a total of 69 infrastructure projects.

Out of those 69, 15 road infrastructure projects will take place in the Peace, including an Airport overlay and two local municipal initiatives:

Throughout the Peace, a total of $10,979,080 in grant funding will be put towards transportation infrastructure.

The Peace is also receiving an additional $3.3 million in provincial grant funding, through the Water For Life projects, which will be used to support two projects taking place in Sexsmith.

Altogether, the Town of Sexsmith is receiving $3,356,396.22 in grant funds from Water For Life projects.

The total of all the grant funds the Peace region is receiving from Budget 2023 for road, bridge, community airport and water infrastructure adds up to, $52,632,063.5.

In a release, the provincial government says this funding shows its commitment to supporting rural and small urban municipalities and maintaining critical local transportation and infrastructure.
