Two Peace region shelters among 18 province-wide to receive renovations funding

Two Peace Region shelters are among 18 organizations that will share in $2.1 million in funding to support better housing.

The money is supplied through the Canada-Alberta Bilateral Agreement under the National Housing Strategy and the Alberta Capital Maintenance and Renewal Program.

It is to be used for renovations and upgrades, such as replacing windows, roofing and siding, new flooring and cabinetry, and updating heating and ventilation systems, along with other maintenance.

Grande Prairie’s Wapiti House will receive $130,000, while the Peace River Regional Women’s Shelter is getting $64,000.

Federal Tourism Minister and Edmonton Centre MP, Randy Boissonault says shelters and affordable housing play a crucial role in the road to recovery for vulnerable Albertans, adding this announcement will ensure continued access to essential services for Albertans.
