Beaverlodge RCMP warn public about paving scams
After receiving a report of a scam from a local resident in Beaverlodge on April 14, RCMP are wanting to inform the public on what to look for in paving scams.
The investigation is underway and the reported incident had the local resident hiring a paving company to do work on their driveway and a bill was sent to them well over what was agreed upon initially. Mounties say things to look for in these types of scams are:
- Suspects come to your home saying they have extra materials from a paving job nearby,
- Their equipment and company vehicles have little to no company details,
- Providing a business card with only a first name,
- The suspects will take money and not start the work, or demand money in excess of the original agreed upon amount and then threaten legal action.
If you or your business has been approached by an individual or company making these claims, RCMP is asking you contact them as soon as possible so they can identify the people involved. Hiring a reputable business, checking credentials, and not offering to pay until work is completed are some of the ways to avoid being swindled and falling victim.
