Grande Prairie Forest Management Area wildfire danger at high

The wildfire danger in the Grande Prairie Forest Management Area is now high.

Since January 1, eight wildfires have burned a total of 56.5 hectares. At this time, five of these fires have been extinguished, three have been turned over to the responsible party to be put out and one is listed as under control.

The fire listed as under control is a winter holdover fire, which came back to life on a windy day. To avoid this, fire crews recommend visiting burn sites, and if you see smoke or feel heat, drench all remaining hot spots with water and stir the ashes.
