Province puts more money into NADC bursaries

Apr 27, 2023 | 6:00 AM

The province says it is putting more money into the Northern Alberta Development Council Bursary program.

The province has included $1.9 million in the new budget to pay for this.

People from this region looking to become veterinarians, nurses, pharmacists, engineers, or to work in business can now qualify for up to $14,000 per year. That will include $1,000-$2,000 to help pay for higher living costs.

People who get this help are required to live in the north for one year for every year they received help under this program.

The province also says the Northern Student Teacher Bursary will go up to $18,000 for the 2023-24 academic year, up from the current $16,000 over two years.

The government says in 2022-23, 239 people got bursaries under this program worth $1.52 million.

Applications for the NADC Bursary close on Sunday, April 30. Check the council’s website if interested.
