Spirit River Academy staying in-house to fill vacant principal role

May 1, 2023 | 7:46 PM

Spirit River Regional Academy has appointed a familiar face to take over its principal role.

Starting in the 2023-2024 school year, Mr. Daren Pullishy, SRRA’s assistant principal for the past nine years will be taking over the position, as the current principal Ms. Dawne Kurtz-McNaught is set to retire at the end of the year.

Mr. Pullishy said in a release, “Having the opportunity to serve the community in this capacity is a labour of love. There is no better occupation in the world that gives one a sense of fulfillment than when you see the children grow, mature, and develop into young adult.”

Mr. Pullishy has been with the Peace Wapiti Public School Division since 1995, holding a bachelor of education from the University of Alberta, majoring in Biological Science, then completing his master of education in 2010 at the University of Northern British Columbia, with a focus on multi-disciplinary leadership.

Spirit River Academy said in the same release, Mr Pullishy looks forward to carrying on with the everyday business that makes the academy so successful.
