High Level

Fire watchers in the High Level Forest Area say some homes in the Little Red River Cree Nation have been evacuated because of an out of control wildfire.

It has burned 70 hectares in the Fox Lake area.

Airtankers, helicopters, heavy equipment and firefighters are working on this blaze.

Evacuees have been told to go to the Fox Lake Band office.

The wildfire hazard is rated high in the High Level area.

Slave Lake

The wildfire hazard rating has been upgraded to extreme in the Slave Lake Forest Area.

One new fire started Tuesday, but it was small and put out quickly. Another fire located 23 kilometres southeast of the East Prairie Metis Settlement is being held at 40 hectares.

The Slave Lake Forest Area has had 54 wildfires that have burned over 125 hectares since the start of the year.

Whitecourt

The Whitecourt Forest Area says a fire burning nine kilometres southeast of Evansburg is listed as out of control at just over 500 hectares while another out of control blaze continues to burn on either side of Highway 22 north of Highway 16, also in the Evansburg-Entwistle area. It has scorched over 2300 hectares. Evacuation orders for those communities have been lifted.

An evacuation order for the Wildwood area was lifted Wednesday at 3 PM.

Another fire near Blue Ridge is being held at 47 hectares.

The hazard remains very high in the Whitecourt Forest Area.
