Free admission, food, and shuttles for International Museum Day events

To celebrate International Museum Day on May 21, the City of Grande Prairie is inviting residents to enjoy what all the local museums have to offer for free.

Special activities are planned throughout the day at the Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum, Veterans Memorial Garden, and Grande Prairie Museum with free entry, food trucks or concessions at each location, and free cake.

Mayor Jackie Clayton said in a news release; “We’re excited to continue partnering with local museums to bring an accessible and inclusive event to all members of the community,”

All museums will also feature special exhibits, including the current Grande Prairie Museum exhibit: “Textiles Tales“, the Veteran Memorial Gardens’ new display: “The Italian Campaign and Battle of Ortona”, and a sneak peek of an upcoming Dinosaur Museum exhibit: “Dinosaurs Among Us”.

The Heritage Village at the Grande Prairie Museum is also scheduled to open for the season during the event.

Grande Prairie Museum Curator and Historical Resources Supervisor Charles Taws said in a release; “We’re proud to play such an important role in cultural connections and learning in our community and sharing that with the region at this International Museum Day event.”

The City will also be supplying free shuttle services from each museum from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. that day, running every 40 minutes, along with a scavenger hunt and a prize for a randomly selected winner.
