County of Grande Prairie council highlights – May 8

May 9, 2023 | 6:00 AM

County of Grande Prairie council gave three readings to its 2023 Property Tax Bylaw during their meeting on Monday.

The bylaw incorporates no increase to the municipal tax portion for all County properties.

Residents in the Hamlet of Hythe will actually see a drop in their 2023 tax rate when compared to last year’s rate, as they are in year two of a four-year plan to align their tax rates with the rest of the County.

Administration was also asked to schedule an exploratory session for council to determine desired outcomes for community facilities within the County.

Findings from this session, which will be facilitated by the County’s Community Group Support Coordinator, will be presented at a future council meeting.

Council also approved work to be done at two of its buildings.

Twenty-one washroom facilities at Crosslink County Sportsplex will be refurbished at a combined cost of $79,000, with the work to be done during the second quarter of the year.

Council also approved the purchase of four replacement rooftop units for Five Mile Hall, at a cost of $60,000. The upgrades will allow the building to maintain air conditioning services throughout the summer.

Council also approved a number of quotes to purchase replacement equipment for the County.

That includes $545,000 to purchase a 320 Caterpillar Track Hoe, while $237,160 will be spent on a Caterpillar 420 Backhoe Loader, with Finning providing both of those units.

Finning will also provide a new Caterpillar D6-20 dozer at a cost of $910,000.

Also, two new pieces of equipment are coming from Brandt Tractor – a John Deere 524P loader at a cost of $359,831.36, and a John Deere 450P Crawler Dozer at a cost of $297,068.54.

The last three units are to be delivered to the County no earlier than January 1st of next year.
