Valleyview, Peace River students going to Canada-Wide Science Fair

A Canada-wide Science Fair taking place in Edmonton this week will feature four Holy Family Catholic Regional Division students, including three from St. Stephens School.

All four of the students participated in the Peace Country Regional Science Fair on March 23, where Micah Hansen from Glenmary School took home first place in the grade 9/10 category with his project “Homemade Fertilizer” which also took home another prize, the best in the fair award.

Principal of Glenmary, Victoria Cornick said in a release “We at Glenmary School are so proud of Micah, he works so hard and we are thrilled for him to go to Edmonton and represent Glenmary at the national level.”

The other three scientists going to the national fair, participated in the grades 7/8 category, with Janessa Bourlon and Isabella Pozniak teaming up to create a project titled, “How Clean Are Apples?” winning silver, followed up by Hannah Klinick and her project, “Ecological Footprint” who took home bronze.

St. Stephen’s School principal Jodie Chislom said in the same release, “These three girls have worked so hard to make it to this point, it’s a great opportunity for the girls and we will be cheering them on!”

The entire school division wished all four students luck as well, adding they will do everything as a school division to support their students.

The Fair does get underway today (May, 14) and will be running till Friday. (May 19)
