The City of Grande Prairie has announced eight road projects taking place in the Westpointe area.

Mayor Jackie Clayton said in a release, “The City of Grande Prairie appreciates the patience and understanding of residents during construction, and we recognize the impact it has on your morning commutes and daily routines. We thank you for your support as this investment in the road network underscores our commitment to improving transportation infrastructure for the entire community’s benefit.”

The eight streets being worked on are:

  • 81 Avenue, from 112 Street to 115A Street
  • 82 Avenue, from 113 Street to east of 114 Street
  • 83 Avenue, between 113 Street and Westpointe Drive
  • 112 Street, from 75A Avenue to north of 81 Avenue
  • 113 Street, between 81 Avenue and 83 Avenue
  • 114 Street, between 82 Avenue and 83 Avenue
  • 115A Street, between 78 Avenue and 81 Avenue
  • 80 Avenue, from Westpointe Drive to 115A Street

Crews are set to operate Monday to Saturday. Traffic will be restricted but maintained in the construction zones. Drivers are being reminded to slow down to 30 kilometres an hour. Drivers are asked to watch for workers and use caution when driving by a work site.

All crews will be doing a range of work, including milling and replacing the current road surfaces, concrete curbs and sidewalk spot replacements, storm infrastructure repairs, and landscaping.

Construction is expected to be finished by the end of June.

This project is part of the $10.95 million allocated to go towards road enhancements, something city hall says will enhance the overall quality and longevity of roads in Grande Prairie.
