Northwestern Alberta Foundation continues to raise funds for those impacted by wildfires

May 17, 2023 | 2:52 PM

Peace Region residents looking to support those affected by wildfires throughout the region can do financially through the Northwestern Alberta Foundation.

It has partnered with the Grande Prairie Regional Emergency Partnership to accept cash donations through the Northwestern Alberta Emergency Recovery Fund.

CEO Laura LaValley says since the fund was launched, just over $3500 in donations.

“We have connected with several corporations that are initiating donations, and a lot of people are just starting to understand where to direct the funds. So we are hoping that amount will continue to grow.”

“We do have a few organizations that are looking at conducting third-party fundraisers that will help support the fund as well. So, we know that our community is willing and ready to help,” added LaValley.

The foundation does ask that donations are cash, as material donations are too difficult for evacuees to manage.

Donors can also give a preference to which community they want to support.

Charitable tax receipts will be issued for donations of $20 or more.
