Former PC cabinet minister endorses two NDP candidates

A prominent former Progressive Conservative cabinet minister is endorsing the two Alberta NDP candidates.

Doug Griffiths, who represented the constituencies of Wainwright and Battle River-Wainwright, was a PC MLA from 2002 to 2015, serving at one time as Municipal Affairs and Minister of Service Alberta.

Griffiths announced Friday he is backing Taneen Rudyk and Bill Tonita, candidates in Fort Saskatchewan-Vegreville and Strathcona-Sherwood Park, respectively.

“This is the most pivotal election in Alberta’s history. We don’t need more radical ideas and anger,” says Griffiths, who served under Premiers Ralph Klein, Ed Stelmach and Alison Redford.

“We need leadership and people who can represent our communities in the Legislature.”

Rudyk says it’s an honour to receive his endorsement.

“Albertans of all political stripes are recognizing that the Alberta NDP will provide trusted leadership,” he says.

“They know that an Alberta NDP government will provide better health care, better education, and make life more affordable. Albertans are getting behind our plan to build a better future for our province, and we can feel the momentum building.”
