Peace River RCMP says five people have been charged after a traffic stop Wednesday evening led to the seizure of weapons and drugs.

Police say at around 7:40 Wednesday evening during patrols, a vehicle was pulled over that was later found to have a stolen license plate.

A search turned up a loaded, stolen handgun, ammunition, an edged weapon, suspected cocaine and methamphetamine, and $4700 worth of cash and gift cards.

Mounties add several vehicle occupants were wanted on outstanding warrants.

Thirty-seven-year-old Eugene L’Hirondelle of McLennan, 33-year-old Travis Cardinal of Edmonton, 42-year-old David Testawich of Peace River, 25-year-old Destiny Alook of Fox Lake, and 44-year-old Bobbie-Jo Dupuis of Grimshaw are all facing two charges each of possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of stolen property along with a dozen weapons-related charges.

L’Hirondelle, Testawich, and Cardinal are also charged with possession of a firearm while prohibited and possession of ammunition while prohibited.

Cardinal and L’Hirondelle have been remanded, with Cardinal due in Edmonton court on May 19.

The others have been released on bail and are due in Peace River court on May 29.
