Updated evacuation alert for the Fox Creek, Little Smoky area

An updated Alberta Emergency Alert has been issued for the Fox Creek-Little Smoky area.

The alert issued late Friday afternoon says the evacuation area covered by the alert has now been expanded.

It now takes in Fox Creek to Little Smoky and all areas immediately surrounding these communities up to Highway 947.

That includes Townships; 65-25-5, 64-25-5, 63-25-5, 62-25-5, 65-24-5, 64-24-5, 63-24-5, 62-24-5, 65-23-5, 64-23-5, 63-23-5, 62-23-5, 65-22-5, 64-22-5, 63-22-5, 62-22-5, 65-21-5, 64-21-5, 63-21-5, 62-21-5.

People living in the area bordered by Township Roads 683 and 670 and Range Roads 211 and 232 must be ready to leave with one hour’s notice.

Evacuees are asked to go to the reception centre at the Allan and Jean Miller Centre in Whitecourt. The alert did not include an alternate route given the closure of Highway 43 from Fox Creek to Little Smoky.
