Rainfall warning issued for many areas in Alberta and B-C Peace

Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for several areas within bth the Alberta and B-C Peace regions.

Alberta areas under the warning include the Grande Prairie-Beaverlodge-Valleyview forecast area, as well as Peace River-Manning-Fairview-High Prairie forecast area, Hinton-Grande Cache forecast area, and the Whitecourt-Fox Creek-Swan Hills-Edson forecast area.

The rainfall warning is also in effect for Dawson Creek-Fort St John and Fort Nelson forecast areas.

The national weather office says rain is expected to begin Sunday night, and become heavy at times, with as much as 50-75 mm of rain expected to fall by Wednesday.

They add that heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads, and that localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.

They caution if visibility is reduced while driving, you should slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop.

Also watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.
