Wiebe holds Grande Prairie-Wapiti for the UCP

May 30, 2023 | 6:00 AM

Local businessman Ron Wiebe is the MLA-elect in Grande Prairie Wapiti, holding the seat for the United Conservative Party.

Wiebe says he is very honoured to be elected.

“I don’t know what it’s supposed to feel like, but I feel really, really good about the support, especially in our region here.”

“I’m overwhelmed and I feel so blessed to have all the support of the constituents.”

Wiebe will replace Travis Toews who decided not to seek re-election.

He says it is time to go to work.

“Throughout this campaign I talked about working for the people and making sure that we get the results, right? There’s so much to do around health care and other priorities, affordability and stuff like that.”

“I just want to make sure that we get the results for the people.”

Wiebe says he will meet with community leaders to find out more about what the local issues are that he should be working on.

“And make sure that we get the results that we’re elected now to do, and I look forward to working with our team of MLAs and our premier to get the results.”

Wiebe wound up with 15,000 votes compared to 4,027 for New Democrat Dustin Archibald and 791 for Brooklyn Biegel with the Independence Party of Alberta.
