Grande Prairie Stompede WPCA Day One Results

The Grande Prairie Stompede kicked off the World Professional Chuckwagon Association’s 2023 season Wednesday night at Evergreen Park.

The 43rd running of the Stompede Championship got underway with winner of the 2022 edition Doug Irvine and defending World Champion Chuckwagon Driver Layne MacGillivary.

Racetrack conditions were a little off due to morning and afternoon showers in Grande Prairie and a partly cloudy sky.

The opening night of chuckwagon races wrapped up with two-time Grande Prairie Champion Obrey Motowylo on top, with the fastest time of the night penalty-free at 1:17.47 driving the Dynamic Energy Group Inc. outfit.

Results from Day 1 are as follows: (Grande Prairie/Peace region drivers are bolded)

The top wagon in the aggregate after Saturday’s run will receive the Ralph Vigen Memorial Award and the use of a brand new GMC pickup truck for a year, compliments of the Grande Prairie Stompede and Summit Fleet.

The top four drivers after the aggregate on Saturday will battle for the GP Stompede Championship title and winner’s cheque in the final heat on Sunday night.

Day 2 races at Evergreen Park are slotted to started at 5:00 p.m.
