Saddle Hills County wildfires listed as out of control

Fire watchers in the Grande Prairie Forest Area say the fire located 10 kilometres west of Deadwood Lake is now estimated at 1,500 hectares and is classified as out of control.

A Facebook post by Central Peace Regional Emergency Management had put the size of the fire at 1,000 hectares, adding that protective measures had been taken on some at-risk structures.

Emergency Management said helicopter bucketing is underway.

Another fire located 20 kilometres north of Valhalla just inside Saddle Hills County near Boones Lake is also listed as out of control. It has burned 450 hectares.

Both are considered part of what is being called the Boones Lake Complex. There are also 50 firefighters and heavy equipment fighting these blazes.
