RCMP announces new province-wide surveillance camera registry program

LETHBRIDGE, AB – RCMP in Alberta have announced the launch of CAPTURE (Community Assisted Policing Through the Use of Recorded Evidence), its voluntary surveillance camera registry program, across the province.

CAPTURE will allow residents and businesses with video surveillance to upload their footage to assist in RCMP investigations.

A release from the RCMP said the program aims to reduce the amount of time an officer needs to search for and gather video evidence when conducting an investigation.

The RCMP said footage provided by those who have signed up will remain the property of the owner, and officers will not have access to live feeds. Any contact information and video cameras submitted on a new website will not be available to the public.
