Jun 13, 2023 | 5:18 PM

County of Grande Prairie council met on Monday.

Among the highlights was Council awarding $210,320 in operating assistance grants to over 60 local organizations and groups. The grant program provides funding to community-based volunteer groups, not-for-profits, municipalities, schools, and sports clubs in order to provide recreational and cultural services to County residents.

Council approved a $1,000 Business Assistance Program grant to a Clairmont area automotive and heavy-duty repair shop in order to help create workforce recruitment strategies to help them retain quality staff.

County Council also authorized the rescheduling of the tri-municipal event that they will be co-hosting with the City and the MD of Greenview. The event, which will be used to promote the region, will now take place during the World Petroleum Congress this September in Calgary. It was originally scheduled for late May in Toronto but had to be canceled due to the wildfires.

A development permit was approved, subject to conditions, for a gas plant facility to be built about 2.5 miles north of Saskatoon Mountain Park. The facility, which will be adjacent to Range Road 93 and Township Road 730, will handle sour natural gases and associated natural gas liquids.

Council also awarded a tender for culvert replacement and other work to Green Acres Ventures Ltd in the amount of $480,150.

Finally, Council agreed to spend $428,386.76 to purchase a 2024 John Deere Crawler Dozer from Brandt Equipment. The machine will replace the County’s existing 2008 crawler dozer.
