Annual maintenance shutdown scheduled for Eastlink Centre Aquatics area

The Eastlink Centre has announced that it will be closing the Aquatics area from September 5 to October 22 for the facility’s annual maintenance.

Among the work to be done will be a deep cleaning of all areas, fixing broken tiles and lights, line painting and repairing the bulkhead mechanical drive system in the 50-metre pool, and completing over 3,100 square metres of deck resurfacing.

Also slated is refurbishing the 25-metre pool liner, installing sound mitigation panels, and preventative maintenance and mechanical repairs to the boilers, pumps, filtration, and disinfection systems.

Much of the work that is being done this year has not been done since the facility opened, as this maintenance follows a 10-year cycle.

Normally, the maintenance shutdown last only four weeks, but the city has added more time this year due to more extensive and larger maintenance work.

In a release, the city says other portions of the Eastlink Centre will remain open while maintenance work is done in the Aquatics area.

They add the Aquatera Outdoor Pool will also remain open as long as the weather allows to ensure residents have swimming opportunities.
