GPPL Summer Reading Games Kick-Off Party set for Saturday

Jun 20, 2023 | 4:22 PM

A Kick-Off Party for the Summer Reading Games is scheduled to take place this Saturday, (June, 24) at the Grande Prairie Public Library.

This free community event will include a number of amenities for the whole family, such as bouncy houses, face painting, games, performers, and more.

As the Summer Reading Games officially start on Wednesday, June 28, this event is designed to encourage and promote kids reading over the summer months, and prevent the “summer slide”

Kate Renfree Children’s Program Director, ” Summer Reading Games offers a chance to combat summer slide and keep kids reading during summer break. By keeping it fun and celebrating success with prizes, we hope to encourage a lifelong love of stories as well as bringing the community together.”

Over the course of this contest, kids can earn free books by completing reading challenges and be entered into prize draws, with big prize draws being handed out in August.

United for Literacy will also have tents set up at different parks every Wednesday, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. starting July 5 and running until August 23.
