PWPSD hands out Indigenous Student Recognition awards
The Indigenous Education Services Department of Peace Wapiti Public School District recognized several graduating students within their division on Thursday with their annual 7 Sacred Teachings Indigenous Student Recognition Awards.
The awards are presented to students who exemplify the 7 Sacred teachings, with each winner receiving a custom beaded medallion with the animal that symbolizes their specific 7 Sacred Teaching.
The recipients include Kennedy Gamache (Respect), and Rain Bertin (Courage) from Peace Wapiti Academy, Jared Wilson (Honesty), Dale Horseman (Wisdom), and Jayce Grey (Truth) from Beaverlodge Regional High School, Beatrice Raitberger (Love) from Sexsmith Secondary, and Eli Ferguson (Humility) from Spirit River Regional Academy.
Meanwhile, Grade 8 student Chance Senenko was presented the district’s first-ever Indigenous Student Recognition Award for Cultural Revitalization.
