A Grade 11 Spirit River Regional Academy student has been accepted into the University of Alberta’s Women in Scholarship, Engineering, Science and Technology (WISEST) summer research program.

Diane Fulton first applied after hearing about the program at a WISET conference in Edmonton, saying in a release, “I’m nervous but excited. When I found out I had an interview for the program I was freaking out, because it was the first time I had to do a professional interview.”

After being accepted into the program, Fulton said the reality set in of having to prioritize everything to make this dream happen. She added, “It allowed me to really focus on the possibilities of the future and gave me the confidence boost of being accepted into this high academic program.”

Over the summer, this program will focus on empowering women and other under-represented groups in pushing them to pursue, impact, and succeed in science engineering and technology
