Jun 27, 2023 | 11:20 AM

A Grande Prairie Public School Division teacher has been honored with receiving the first-ever French Second Language Educator of the Year on a provincially recognized level.

Alissa Alas, the French as a second language teacher at Riverstone Public School, won the award from the Canadian Parents for French Alberta and Alberta French Language Education Consortium.

Alas is said to use ingenious methods to teach French, through resources at Riverstone by using games to boost student creativity and guide them in learning a new language.

The French Language Resource Centre at the school also is one of the many resources at the school Alas uses to teach.

Many of her students have chosen to challenge the DELF (Diplôme d’Etudes en Langue Française) primary level A1.1 exam. The exam assesses the student’s proficiency in different areas; including reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
