Four-year sentence after sexual assault conviction

Alberta Justice says a former Grande Prairie business owner convicted of sexual assault has been given a four-year jail sentence.

The sentence was given out earlier this month. The accused was convicted at a trial in February.

Grande Prairie RCMP made an arrest on January 4, 2020, after complaints of inappropriate sexual contact between an adult and two minors at a Grande Prairie home.

Mounties said at the time that the young people were offered goods in exchange for going to an unlicensed business.

We are not using the name of the accused because of a court-ordered publication ban that prohibits the release of any information that could identify the complainants.

Guilty verdict for one accused in drugs and firearms arrest

Alberta Justice says one of the three people charged after drugs and weapons were seized at a home in Grimshaw will be sentenced January 8, 2024.

Clifford William Carifelle of Grimshaw was found guilty of charges of possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized and possession of a prohibited weapon at a trial last month in Peace River court.

All eleven charges against two other people: Jordin Ashley Dwyer of Berwyn and Cheyanne Geissler of Grimshaw, were withdrawn.

They were arrested after a search of a home in Grimshaw in October of last year.

RCMP said at the time they seized a semi-automatic rifle, edged weapons, a conducted energy weapon, 80 grams of methamphetamine, fentanyl, and cocaine.

Accused in drug cases serving jail sentence

Alberta Justice says one accused in two Grande Prairie drug arrests is serving a two-year jail sentence for one of those arrests, but charges were withdrawn in another.

Quaddien Davis of Toronto, along with Wayne Evan Jones of Grande Prairie, were charged after an arrest in August of 2020 following a search of a city apartment that turned up hard and soft cocaine, almost $1,100 cash, three cell phones, scales, and packing materials.

Davis’s charges were withdrawn on June 21 while Jones’ charges were withdrawn in February 2023.

Davis had earlier pleaded guilty to charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of stolen property charges related to an arrest in November of 2020 and was given a two-year jail sentence.

RCMP said at the time that a search at homes in Highland Park and Avondale turned up more than 60 grams of powder and crack cocaine, close to 200 Oxycodone pills, and more than $14,000 cash.

A warrant has been out for co-accused: Taurean Adams of Edmonton, since he failed to show up for court on August 15, 2022.

Charges withdrawn against one person charged in shooting

Alberta Justice says all charges against one of the people charged after a shooting investigation led to a drugs and weapons seizure at Whitefish Lake First Nation have been withdrawn.

Nicholas Anderson Kootenay of Edmonton was to stand trial on a dozen counts, including possession of a controlled substance and multiple possession of a firearm charges, July 11 in High Prairie court.

Police say the investigation into the shooting, details of which were not released, led to a search of a Whitefish Lake home that turned up crystal meth, heroin, fentanyl, two rifles, a shotgun, ammunition, fake IDs and cash.

In June of last year, co-accused Shawn Evan Cardinal of Whitefish Lake was given a six-month jail sentence after pleading guilty to six charges, including assault and criminal negligence causing bodily harm.

Also in June of last year, Mora Catherine Morgan pleaded guilty to two possession of stolen property charges and was given $700 in fines, along with a suspended sentence on a failure to comply charge.
